I try to position myself in front of the tank so that I won't get any glare from lights, signs, etc. I also watch the movement of the animal (in this case, the cuttlefish) for awhile to see if he/she moves in a pattern (this makes for a slightly easier shooting experience). I try not to use the flash for 2 reasons; One: it annoys and/or frightens the animal. Two: It causes glare and makes the shadows too dark (thus, you lose details). For this particular shot, I just waited until the cuttlefish came to a halt for a bit and opened up the shutter on my camera (to let in more light).
