White Bengal tigers are not "albino". Their light coats are actually achieved through a
rare genetic mutation that is mostly achieved through inbreeding in captivity.
Due to the nature in which these captive tigers are bred, many are born with crossed
eyes, skeletal and mouth deformations and in some cases, mental retardation.
Not all white tigers are born through captive inbreeding though. Currently, there is
a very small percentage that simply pass down the recessive 'white coat' gene
through breeding a white tiger and a 'normal' orange and black Bengal Tiger.

Nothing appeared to be wrong with her on the outside, she just seemed a tad overweight though.

I really like this one. He looks exhausted in his black cage. Just like he knows, he is only living this dull cage life because people wanted to see another colored tiger.

Just so you're aware, inbreeding isn't the only way this can be achieved. The gene is simply recessive, so breeding two white tigers gives a 1/2 to 3/4 chance of having white offspring, while breeding a white tiger and a normal one would usually only result in a 1/4 chance. White tigers are rare, so typically in one zoo the white tigers they do have will be related, which is why they're often inbred.
I believe there are programs in place to bring non-related white tigers into zoos to stop the inbreeding, which is great.

Anyhow, this is a good photo. I'm not sure whether the colour effect was caused by the glass or if you used a filter, but I like it c:

Hey there  Thank you for the info. I actually was aware that the white coloration was a recessive gene. My description was only referring to breeding programs in zoos and parks (sorry about that, I should have been more thorough in what exactly I was referring to).

As for the blue coloration of the photo, I included that from scratch in Photoshop through a set of Actions I created.

Thank you again

Yes, I fully agree, poor human mankind. The only animal that is smart enough to destroy everything incl. its own kind.

Nice shot though. :aww:

Oh, thank goodness you were on the other side of a window. I was like "Woah, this looks like a dangerous shot, don't you think?" and then when I finished reading the description I was like "Oh. Phew. Ok."

That's an excellent shot. you can't even tell there's glass there. :D
