photo © *MonsterBrand

*African Wild Dog (photo shot through chain link fence).

*The title was inspired by the fact that surprisingly, these canines
are mistaken for wolves and hyenas quite often (this observation was
made during a personal experience at the Brookfield Zoo - I stayed at
the Wild Dogs' exhibit for a couple hours altogether and not one person
read the exhibit sign while looking at the Wild Dogs - every family and
couple that came by would exclaim "Wow! look at those ugly wolves" or
something along the lines of "those hyenas have awesome colors!")
I was lucky enough to get to talk to a few of the people and let them know
that these incredible animals are in fact African Wild Dogs and taught them
a little about the animals' social habits, geographic location, eating habits, etc.
Not only do I love learning, I love sharing my newfound knowledge with
others as well. I hope you enjoy my photo! More photos of this
amazing group of Wild Dogs will be coming to my DevArt gallery soon!

*Part of my "One photo a day for an entire year" Project.

I can't remember what it was, but I saw a documentary when they showed a video clip of a wild dog and the narrator called it a hyena.

Ugh, I think I totally saw that same video! :noes: It was quite awhile ago that I saw the clip and I couldn't believe that the editor(s) allowed that video to be published, because of the incorrect information they were sharing.  *face palm*

Does it have blue eyes?

I can understand the general ignorance surrounding the species, they don't really get much exposure. I've only seen them in one section of a documentary on Africa and in two video games.

Of course there's no excuse for not reading the information provided about the animal at the zoo.

All African Wild Dogs (as far as I'm aware) have brown eyes.  The eyes appear blue in my photograph because of the wierd reflecting phenomenon that was happening with the sun's light comboned with various panes of glass, etc.  When I brightened the area around the eyes a bit in post-production, the blue color was only enhanced. ;)
