Love the composition and the way the python looks as if its hesitantly peering out from under the palm frond as he/she slowly rises up to take a look around. My python does that and I call it "up periscope".

I read those books. Kaa rules!!:hooray::nod: And that is a beautiful picture of a snake even though I'm not particularly enamoured with snakes.:o This one is really beautiful because of the way the skin shines in the light. Your patience paid off as I can only imagine you had to wait for that thing to move.=D I've been to the San Diego Zoo and you rarely ever see the snake. They're usually holed up in a private place away from prying eyes. :(

I've only been to the San Diego Zoo once but I would LOVE to go back one day :)

Anywho, thank you for the comment Aoife. This is actually the very first time I have seen any species of Python so active before and not all curled up in a corner. So, I shot a million (and one) photos of this guy while he was slithering around his enclosure. It was amazing really :)

You HAVE to go to the San Diego Zoo!!!!:omg: It's the awesomest zoo ever! If you like to photograph animals, you will love it there because they utilize natural habitats. You can see crocodiles in their natural habitats, even underwater!!! They have open range monkey enclosures. It's amazing.:wow: They also have a wild animal reserve outside of the city called San Diego Zoo Safari Park [link] that has lions, zebras, etc on it and you drive in Range Rovers through open habitat to watch and take pictures just like you would in Africa. You would love it. Plus San Diego has Marine World with some of the coolest marine exhibits ever!!! They have a penguin habitat that's a mile long, at least it seemed that long to me.=D[link] It's cutaway glass with glaciers behind it so you can see them underwater too. There's so much to see and do there if you're a photographer of wild life. You would faint from the over-kill. I did the whole tour, checked it off my bucket list.=D You gotta go there for your convention just so you can do side trips and do those things. San Diego Zoo is inside of Balboa Park [link] and it's the best park in the world. Yep, it is. It's huge with Shakespeare's outdoor Globe theatre, museums for cars, natural history, aeronautic/space, Reuben Fleet science museum, photography, paintings, you name it, they have it. You can't miss that opportunity if you have to choose a convention site. San Diego, I'm telling you. Take it from the Eef-monster.:giggle:
